S’more Camping Pics

March 25, 2009

Okay, really, these are the first camping pics I’ve posted, but the title worked. We camped for three nights at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin during Spring Break with some good friends. Because we were so close to home, we had several other friends come out and hang with us too. The weather was completely perfect and it was our first rainless family camping trip.

I wanted to make sure we had plenty of power on hand, so I reserved us a site with 50 amps, while the other two fams we were with did the right thing and got 30 amp sites. Because the park was full last week, they told us we couldn’t switch sites to something close to were the others were camping. We practically had our whole site set up when the park ranger came by and told us they would let us move. So we totally broke down everything and moved it to another area and reset it all. But we had a perfect spot.

I finally got to hang up my hammock that I bought in Brazil back in 2002 and spent a few restful moments chilling out on it.

There was a burn ban in effect when we arrived and we were told the soonest it would be lifted would be on Wednesday, which was a bummer because s’mores are an essential part of the camping experience. On Tuesday afternoon, the burn ban was lifted. That gave us two nights of campfires.

There are a couple of hiking trails that were beautifully scenic and they had a few hidden treasures (geocaches) along the way.

Overall, it was the absolute perfect camping experience. It was very needed and we made some awesome memories together.

The Biggest Hunt

The Big Hunt

The Big Hunt

I was just checking to see who officially had the biggest Easter Egg on record. So far, the hunt that holds the world’s record is in Florida. But there is nothing in Texas that comes to close to what’s going to happen this year at The Big Hunt in Kyle.

When we moved to Kyle in 2004, this was our very first event where God confirmed our call to this area as over 800 people showed up. Since then, TBH has gotten bigger every year. Last year, it was so insane that we were left wondering how we could continue to pull this off with the overwhelming number of people that want to show up. Well, this year, the answer came. It was obvious we needed a change of venue to really accommodate everyone.

So, thanks to the leadership of Jennifer and Trey Williams, we’re relocating the Hunt to Thunderhill Raceway just south of Kyle on I-35. This is going to allow us to go to a Whole ‘Notha Level! Plenty of space, accessibility, parking and it places us in the middle of a whole new demographic to reach people.

Here’s the details: Saturday, April 11th from 10:30am – 1:00pm

The event is once again free for everyone with:

  • Over 20,000 candy and prize filled eggs
  • Two HUGE age divided egg hunts at 11am and noon
  • The Easter Bunny
  • Live music
  • Inflatable games
  • Puppet shows
  • Race cars on display
  • The River 102.3
  • AND MORE…

If you’re a part of The Connection Church family, you can be a part of making The Big Hunt happen. Our motto is: PEOPLE EGGS & H2O! We’re looking for 100 volunteers, 30,000 eggs, and 200 cases of bottled water. And if we get 30,000 eggs, I will get a tattoo with the TCC logo blocks, although, I’m confident that there is no way that’s happening. I’m expecting more like 29,000 eggs. But we’ll see.

If you are not yet a part of TCC, then I want to personally invite you to come out and enjoy a great time with us. I’ll see you there!

Here are 2 practical ways to tackle temptation this week:

Draw near to God.

Run away!

God’s Most Wanted

March 4, 2009

What do you call people who are far from God? There have been all sorts of names that Christians have used to refer to people who are not yet a part of God’s family. But one name that can be applied to each of these people is God’s Most Wanted. Who are the people that God wants the most? According to Jesus, He came to “seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10). This puts them on God’s Most Wanted list.

As we ramp up to Easter at The Connection Church, we’re making our own list of God’s Most Wanted. These are the people that God has placed on our hearts. The people that we care about the most who need to experience God’s forgiveness, purpose, and hope for the future. Last Sunday, we closed our services with a chance to write their names on the list.

What an awesome moment when people flooded to the front to write these names. Just the process of putting the names down was one of faith and expectation. It was also a commitment to pray daily for them specifically and to personally invite them to come to TCC. I saw men write the name of their wives. Ladies wrote the name of their husbands. Kids wrote their parents name on the List. People wrote the names of their friends, coworkers and neighbors. I know without a doubt that as much as we want to see them come to Jesus, God wants them even more!

Famous Last Words – God’s Most Wanted LIST from The Connection Church on Vimeo.

We’re putting the lists up each week in the lobby so we can see the names and add to them until Easter. When the person that you’re reaching out comes to the service with you, you can take them up to their name and show them how much you wanted them there. We want everyone to celebrate what God is doing to change lives!

So who’s on your list? Join us in praying and reaching out this year as we prepare for Easter.

“I’m sorry, we’re going to have to let you go.” Those words, along with the accompanying pink slip are becoming very common. In fact, hardly a day goes by without the news of someone else that we know and love losing their job. If this is something you or a family member have faced, THIS IS NOT THE END. There is hope for an even greater future! How do you turn this potential tragedy into a triumph?
