Archives For Health

Some thoughts to follow-up this week’s message on going ALL IN by loving God with all of our strength, just like Jesus talked about in the Great Commandment. Here’s a practical challenge that you can take to apply this to your life with your rest, your diet, and your exercise.

Connection MVP: Angela Gilbert

February 17, 2014

Run For the Love It is a 5K run/walk for our community to promote fitness and unity while raising funds that will go toward helping those who need it most in our village of Agua Zarca where The Connection Church is serving. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for a morning that was filled with fun as we ran together with a group of over 200 participants. On top of that, we enjoyed a kids dash, lots of healthy snacks prepared by our volunteers, bounce houses for the kids, and our very own DJ Raul! This was a collective group effort as over 100 additional volunteers showed up and showed out! We gave awards and prizes to the fastest runners, including the overall winner of the day, Collin Bond, who came in at just over 17 minutes!

All of this happened under the skilled leadership of Angela Gilbert. Angela has a huge heart for missions and the admin/organizational skills to pull off such a super-successful event! We know her desire is that God gets all the glory and that’s exactly what we’re going to do! Angela, we so proud to have you on our team! You are this week’s Most Valuable Player!

Run for the Love of It

January 16, 2014

run_logoWe’re going to be running for the love of it on Saturday morning, February 15th at 8am with a 5k route starting at The Connection Church. This will be a fun, family-friendly event with:

  • a Chip-Timed Run/Walk
  • a Kid’s Dash
  • Live Music
  • Refreshments
  • Inflatable Games
  • Lots of Award Categories!

You may be asking, “What is the IT we’re running for?” Well, as my momma used to say, “It’s between the ‘I’ and the ‘T’!” Yeah, I had a hard time understanding that saying too. But I’ll be more specific about the IT we’re running for.

For some people, IT might be that they love to run. For those twisted kinds of minds, you’ll have lots of fun getting out in the cool morning air for a brisk run with some great people. You can even walk it if that’s more your speed. Either way, you’ll be doing something that’s good for your body and your soul.

For others, the IT will be the great mission work that the proceeds of the run will go towards. This money will be going to our mission work to carry the name of Jesus around the world and help make like better in places like Agua Zarca in Guatemala.

No matter what church or group you’re a part of, get them together and join us at this event for the whole community.

Workup Music to Run To

January 23, 2009

I created two new iMixes today with music from my running playlist. I was so pumped listening to the list while I was running, that I thought it would be nice to share it with someone. This music is on the heavy side featuring some Christian bands that motivate me to keep moving. For my getting back into it session at Anytime Fitness, I just did the elliptical for 30 minutes and went 3 miles and burned just over 300 calories.  Several guys from TCC have a membership there, it’s close to the office and I’m thinking this will help me be more consistent in my exercise. Let’s hope that this will become a regular habit for me.
