Day 6
Read:
Psalm 1-2
Dig Deeper:
Psalm 1 and 2 present a question, and, thankfully, give an answer as well. In the first Psalm, the highlighted idea is that you must be righteous, perfectly living out God's laws, in order to be saved. If you cannot perfectly keep God's laws, you are then headed for utter destruction (also known as Hell). Unfortunately for every person who has ever existed (minus 1), this has never happened. In fact, Psalm 14:3 highlights this fact: "All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one."
So, the Psalm 1 question is: "How can we be saved?"
And, the Psalm 2 answer: "Through God's Son".
Psalm 2 revolves around a great King, appointed by God, who is also called his Son. This King is a great ruler who cannot be defeated by an earthly or supernatural power. And, on top of this, the Psalm extends this King's rule from one that is purely ethnic (the nation of Israel) to one that reaches all the peoples of the Earth. All of mankind is saved by submitting to the rule of this King.
Although the identity of the Psalm 2 King was unknown at the time, we now know that this all-powerful King, the Son of God, is Jesus Christ himself.
As the Psalm declares, "Serve the Lord with fear", meaning we should put Jesus in charge of our lives. And, "blessed are those who take refuge in Him". Meaning, He'll save us from our sins.
Declaration: Say this next statement out loud as a declaration of what you have learned today.
Jesus is King over everything. When I couldn't become righteous on my own, He did it for me. I am now righteous in Christ Jesus.
Pray:
God, thank You that when I couldn't be perfect enough, You made a way for me. Thank you that through Jesus I am saved. Help me to share that hope with others so they can be saved as well and have peace with You. Amen.
