Day 3

Dec 15, 2025

Read:

Genesis 12:1-3

Dig Deeper:

By the time we make it to Genesis 12, a lot has happened--we see many firsts including the first musical instrument, the first weapon, and the first murder. Plus, we see some cosmic developments including supernatural beings having kids with human women (check out Genesis 6 to read about a cosmic coup), a global flood, and to top it all off, humanity tries to deify themselves once again by attempting to build a tower that reaches to Heaven. At that time using a universal language, God removes their singular language system and causes them to speak many languages, which in turn cause people to scatter across the globe. Suffice it to say, things are not going well.

With all of this corruption and cosmic upheaval present in the world, God selects and seeks out a man named Abram who at the time was engaged in idol worship. To a man who worshipped such distant gods, it must have been a shock when Yahweh, the God of gods, came to pay him a social visit.

God makes a promise with Abram about a blessing that would find it's fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Abram, who at the time had no children of his own, would become the patriarch of a great nation. And through that final phrase, "in you all the nations of the world will be blessed", an ethnic promise becomes a cosmic one. A great nation would be established in which a baby, the 41x great grandson of Abram, would be born in Bethlehem and spend his first night sleeping in a barn. This baby would grow up to bless the entire world, Jew and Gentile alike, by bringing restoration to that cosmic tear in the universe between Heaven and Earth.

Declaration: Say this next statement out loud as a declaration of what you have learned today.

God made a way for me to be united with Him. Just like He sought out Abram, He's seeking me out too.

Pray:

God, thank you that you made a way for me to be united with You. You are the God of the Cosmos. There is no god above You. Help me to live like the God of the Universe is on my side today. Amen.
