Day 2: Don’t Do Nothing

Read:

Matthew 25:14-30

Dig Deeper:

Did you know that the average adult in the US spends about 2.5 hours on social media every day? That adds up to 17.5 hours per week and 910 hours per year. That's nearly 38 days or OVER A MONTH spent on social media every single year!

The fact is God has given you special talents and abilities that He wants you to use. He made you on purpose for a purpose. What a waste to spend your precious God-given time scrolling instead of putting hands and feet to that purpose you were given.

In today’s scripture, we read a story about a man who wasted what he was given. He hid it away so that it was of no use, and the master in the story, he was not happy about. In fact, he actually gave the order to send his servant to a place of punishment and torment. He was really not playing around.

If we look further back, we see that this story was one in a series of stories that Jesus was telling all centered around the theme of salvation, service, and what would happen at the end when Jesus came back again. These three themes seem to be inseparable for Jesus. When we give our lives to Him (salvation), we will naturally live that out (service) as we try to honor Christ with our lives. Living out our purpose isn’t what saves us, but it is an obvious sign of the internal commitment and life-change that has happened in our lives. And of course, when we’ve given our lives to Christ, when He returns, he’ll say “Well done, my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master.” Just like the Just Master in today’s reading.

Before moving to the next section, take a moment to take some inventory of yourself. What are you spending the most time on? Is it a purpose builder or a purpose killer? What are some things that you waste time on? What could you replace those things with?

Declaration: Say this next statement out loud as a declaration of what you have learned today.

I am filled with purpose. I will honor God with my time by choosing to not waste time.

Pray:

God, thank you for filling me with purpose. Reveal to me the ways that I am wasting my time. Help me to honor You with my time by using it wisely. I want to honor You with my life. Amen.
