Day 3
Read:
Matthew 28:18-20
Dig Deeper:
In today’s reading, we find Jesus talking to his disciples right before He ascends straight up into Heaven. That must have been mind blowing to watch! But what was probably even more mind blowing for the people that were standing there with Jesus were the words that He spoke to them. He handed off the go-and-tell baton in this renewal-relay that He’d been running. Part of his mission of advancing the Kingdom of God was now theirs.
Funnily enough, the disciples pretty immediately went and hid out. They didn’t know what to do, but they knew that they needed some wisdom. And so, as they sat together for over a week and prayed, they were met with the Holy Spirit who gave them special talents and abilities and guided them in the mission that they had been given.
That mission is now yours if you have given your life to Jesus. That same Holy Spirit now lives inside of you. He’s gifted you also with special talents and abilities, and He will also be faithful to give you wisdom to use those gifts to advance the mission.
The fact is, God has given us all one mission for our lives, and so, every piece of our lives should revolve around the mission we’ve been given. It’s one of great adventure. It’s a mission quite literally of life and death. It’s a mission of rescuing people from darkness by sharing the light that we have received.
Whether you’ve got a solid 9-5, you’re a full-time parent, still in school, or unemployed, we’ve all got a shared mission to spread the Good News of Jesus. We often look at that mission as an add-on, but I want to encourage you today, that when you make your mission the main thing, it will be the most fulfilling thing that you ever do.
Declaration: Say this next statement out loud as a declaration of what you have learned today.
God has a mission for me. I will make my mission of telling others about Jesus my main thing today.
Pray:
God, show me how to live out the mission that you’ve given me in my life today. Give me opportunities to share your goodness with those around me. Thank you for choosing me. Amen.
