Day 1: Do Something

Read:

Genesis 12:1-4a

Dig Deeper:

Have you ever faced a decision-making-moment and not known what the right choice was? The intimidation that can take place in these moments can either cause us to wind-up or numb-out. But if we do nothing, we’ll never get anywhere. In today’s reading, God tells Abram to go from his father’s house into a land that He would show him, but the problem is, you can’t plug “I’ll show you” into your GPS. Abram decided to take up the challenge. If you read the rest of his story (in Genesis 11-25), you’ll see that he sort of makes things up as he goes. Sometimes he makes good choices, and sometimes he makes some choices so obviously bad that you want to yell into the pages of your Bible, “Not again!” He wasn’t perfect, but what he did do was continue to pursue the call that God had on his life to the best of his ability. Abram continued to take the next best step by saying yes to God. And as he did this, God met him right where he was at. He blessed him when he made smart choices, and God also helped him when he made poor choices. See, saying yes to the call that God has on your life, it’s not about getting it perfect, but it IS about continuing to say yes, even when you can’t see what is ahead. That is what true faith looks like.

Declaration: Say this next statement out loud as a declaration of what you have learned today.

I will do what God calls me to do. I trust God to help me even when I can’t see what is ahead.

Pray:

God, meet me where I’m at today. Help me to say yes to You and honor the call that You have on my life. Fill me with courage and peace. Reveal to me ways that I can continue to take steps forward as I trust in You. Amen.
