Jesus Part 1
This week's objective is very simple: to get to know Jesus better. We are going to focus on having a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus. We will get to know Jesus just like we get to know anyone else: by learning his names, by understanding his life history, and by appreciating and enjoying his personality.
When you read names in the Bible, it's important to note that names are more significant than we give them credit for today. A name was an indicator about three specifics of a person:
1. His purpose 2. His position 3. His promise
So, when we study Jesus' names, it's important to remember how significant this is to understanding the personhood of Christ. The angel told Mary in Luke 1:31 to name the baby "Jesus." The name Jesus (Joshua, in the Aramaic language, which they spoke) means "salvation of God." This name CLEARLY identified Jesus' purpose and the promise of his life.
