Creation Part 1
This week's objective is to deepen your conviction that the world and all that is in it are created by the personal action of a personal God. Knowing the origins of life can be life changing as it gives us a truer sense of identity and purpose. In fact, what you believe about your origin affects your self-worth, your relationships, and even how you view God.
Take a couple of minutes and reflect on this statement:
I am a personal creation of a loving God.
Now, compare it with this statement:
I am the result of random chemical reactions in a primordial soup.
How would believing each of these statements affect how you view yourself, others, and the world around you? It would probably be a pretty huge difference, right?
This week, we'll be touching on scripture, but we'll also be taking a look at what some scientists have to say about creation and how we came to be! For now though, let's look at three big reasons why God created.
1. FOR HIS OWN SAKE
God literally created for himself. He wanted to. God created for the fun of it! Isn't it awesome to think we serve a God who enjoys things, has fun, and is creative?
2. TO EXPRESS HIS SOVEREIGNTY
God's control is shown through his creation. He owns all of life and chooses how the entire universe plays out. We can see God's sovereignty (his complete power over everything) when we think about our own lives or even open a history book!
3. TO REFLECT HIS CHARACTER
Take a minute to read over Psalm 19:1-2. Meditate on what it might mean. How have you seen this play-out as you look at the world around you?
